Mercury Alerts Privacy
What we record about the people who use Mercury Alerts, why, and who else sees it. The short version: we record how the product is used so we can make it better, and we never sell or rent user data or logs to anyone.
Who we are
Mercury Alerts is run by Mercury Strategy LLC, New York. Contact: support@mercuryalerts.com.
What we record
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Your account | Name, email, company, and a title and phone number if you add them. Your password is never stored: we keep only a salted, slow hash of it, which cannot be turned back into the password. |
| Sign-ins | When you sign in and out, failed sign-in attempts on your account, the device and browser you use, and your IP address. |
| Approximate location | The city, region, country and network (for example your internet provider or company) that your IP address belongs to. We look this up on our own servers from a database; your IP address is not sent to anyone else to do it. |
| How you use Mercury | The commands and questions you type into Mercury, exactly as typed; the buttons, links, tabs and menus you click (by their label); the screens you open; when the window is in use or in the background; and any error Mercury showed you. |
| Exchange records | For real-time options data, the application and subscriber agreement the exchanges (OPRA) require, and the records of when and from which device the data was used, which their rules oblige us to keep and report. |
We do not record what you type into forms (your password included), the content of your screen, or anything outside Mercury. We do not use advertising cookies or trackers. Our public pages may count visits with Plausible, which uses no cookies and stores no personal data.
Why
- To run the service and keep your account secure (for example, spotting repeated failed sign-ins).
- To meet the exchanges' rules for real-time data, including one device per sign-in at a time and monthly usage reports.
- To help you when you ask for support.
- To understand how Mercury is used (which commands people rely on, where they get stuck, what is slow) so we can improve it.
Who else sees it
We never sell or rent user data or logs, and we never share them for advertising. The only others who handle it are:
- The companies that run parts of Mercury for us, only to provide that service: our server host, our email delivery service, and our encrypted backup storage.
- The options exchanges' plan (OPRA), for subscribers to real-time data, as its rules require.
- Anyone the law requires us to disclose it to.
